Blessed Thistle
By Tamare White-Wolf
Often the thistle has been associated to the Scorpio and the heart, one could figure out why if you consider the prickliness of our wonderful Scorpio friends and family members. It’s not that they’re mean not at all but these folks are straight to the point and slightly unnerving to those that don’t expect such clarity and truth. That is the whole point of the thistle. This plant is often avoided again like the Scorpio. It is very intense and makes its point clear, as it deals with toxicity, helping the liver remove waist that hasn’t found its way out.
There’s an 13th century legend as to why the Scottish see this plant as a national emblem. It is because it saved them during a Norse invasion. This prickly plant save the day when a barefoot soldier stepped on a whistle and cried out in such pain he alerted all the Scots and ruined the surprise, ( the soldiers, removed their footwear in the dark of the night in hopes to be quiet as they moved into the camp). So now thistle stands as a sign of the Scottish‘s resilience, strength, and fortitude.
Another interesting fact is the Royal family has an “Order of the Thistle” it was likely founded in the 1400s by James the 3rd. This order recognizes men and women who have held public office or in someway, have contributed significantly to this nations life. Apparently, there are 16 knights and ladies, the queen, the princess Royal, and the Duke of Rothesay (Prince of Wales) who presently is Prince William.
This is very much a male orientated plant has the influence of aggressive and or assertive energy like Mars the planet it’s associated too. It has been associated to Pan go figure! It offers protection and vitality on a magical level. It has been known to work well with hex, breaking and managing any negativity or perceived evil! On a more medicinal level. It’s used for inflammation and can help with gas and indigestion. I’ve heard raving remarks about its helpfulness in restoring the liver to its optimal state too. For those of you who are breast-feeding it can help in the production of milk. Some have used it for PMS symptoms, including painful menstruation. Be mindful of using it when taking medication‘s lowering stomach acid as it may have contraindications of such medication’s.
