Discussion on Cultural Appropriation and Other Important Topics.

Keynote Speakers in a Panel Discussion

As many of you may know, we had previously considered a Sweat Lodge ceremony for our upcoming festival. Due to our encounter with indigenous communities across Turtle Island, and their expressed concerns for the safety of attendees and legitimacy of the ceremony we have decided to cancel the ceremony and instead replace it with an in-depth discussion on important and relevant issues to today’s society. This will include discussion on cultural appropriation, and how it effects communities and minorities; biased and prejudiced behaviours, how to recognize them and change them; racism; homophobia and transphobia; what to look for in a healer; what to do if your elder behaves inappropriately; and much more.

Issues such as these are seldom discussed as they can be difficult and/or triggering to talk about. Therefore, we aim to create a safe and open space for our valued festival-goers to openly talk about their experiences and opinions on these important topics in an inclusive and healing discussion. We welcome and strongly encourage all to attend, as we have witnessed many spiritualists and followers of alternative paths come face to face with unfounded judgement or discrimination based on their beliefs, life-path, sexual orientation or heritage.

PaganFest has always been a celebration of culture, tradition, and unity. We see the beauty in all philosophies and belief systems. Whether you’re Pagan, Wiccan, Indigenous, Athiest, Shaman, Hindu, Buddhist, Catholic or otherwise, we ask that you join us as brothers and sisters in this inclusive and safe environment to celebrate love and light!
