Medicinal Uses: Sage has a wide range of medicinal properties. Like all odoriferous sages, the leaves are powerful antiseptics, used for abrasions and a spectrum of skin inflammations, staph infections, and sore throats, colds, and lung infections. Drink it hot, as an infusion of the leaves it will stimulate perspiration, thus lowering fevers. Inhaling the steamed leaves broke up chest congestion. Drink it cold, and all bodily secretions are inhibited, which gives rise to the herb’s use in weaning babies from the breast. The mother would drink the cold tea and moisten her breasts with it. Many sages, because of their anti-microbial properties, are used in over-the-counter preparations. It can be used to make a tea, which is a refreshing drink. Gargling with common sage (Salvia Officinalis) tea, helped strengthen gums and keep teeth white and was also a well-known, sometimes very effective laryngitis and sore throat cure. The tea can also be used to relieve the discomfort of measles, dizziness, colds, fever, and headaches. This herb has been taken for everything from stomach and digestive complaints to a rinse for bleeding gums. It has been used to treat a variety of illnesses including hemorrhoids, and in homeopathy it is apparently a remedy for excessive breast milk flow. Externally, it can be used to treat mild skin injuries inflammation.

Magical Uses: This herb is commonly used as incense, for smudging, or for purification. When used in smudging, sage is believed to keep away evil spirits and negative energies. It is also used in spells and rituals seeking prosperity, fertility and longevity, money drawing, banishing, and consecration. It is used for a variety of other magical uses apart from cleansing. It is used for protection, prosperity, fertility, longevity, money attraction, healing, and business rituals. It is said that if you eat it, you will become wiser and immortal. To reverse a spell, light a dried sage leaf on fire, blow out the flame, leaving the ember. Make large counter-clockwise circles in the air with the smoke, while chanting to undo the previous spell. To make a wish, write a wish on a  leaf and hide it under your pillow. Sleep upon it for three nights. If you dream about what you wished for, it will materialize.
