Otter Spirit Medicine
Otter Totem Medicine carries an abundance of female energy applying to both men and women, as we all have a more feminine side.The Otter’s hide is very often used to make medicine bags for powerful women or for those who work with people and their female side because its “medicine” assists to balance ones female energy.
Otter is loving & caring of its young, its friends and its mate! They enjoy playing and reveling in a warm cozy blissful connection with those it spends time with! It lives on land, but builds it home near water. The elements of Earth and Water are both aligned directly with female energy!
Otter, always on the move and very curious. This joyful little creature is adventurous, assuming all other creatures are just as friendly. They have little will to fight and will likely shy away if intimidated!
Those with the character traits of the Otter show the beauty of a balanced female side, the ability to trust creating space for others to enter our lives without preconceptions or suspicions. Otter teaches us not to be jealous or catty. It strengthens sisterhood, content to enjoy and share in the good fortune of others. Otter people express joy for others and see the whole tribes well being as important.

It may be time to examine your feelings about sharing the bounty of your life! Keep a Hawk-eye on your ego and maintain total trust. If you are drawn to this Otter symbology it may be telling you to become the playful child and to simply allow things to unfold in your life. It may be time to stop worrying and let go of material things that bind or a burden you. In looking at how you can learn from Otter’s habits, you might ask yourself, have you given yourself a gift recently? Have you received any messages in your meditations? Become like the Otter and move gently and flow with the waters of the Universe… this is the way of balanced female- receptivity, discover the power of woman.
Reversal Energy
If the Otter card appears to you in a negative way it may be telling you to stop running from one idea to another and focus. Stop blocking the gifts from the Universe with your male side. If this is the case, you may be embarrassed to receive compliments, to have someone hug you. Just allow your genuine personality to come out and relax. Fear of being rejected is the contrary message of Otter. Drop the seriousness on all levels and play at life, allow the fear to roll off your back. Realize that the only flow is the flow of love from the Great Spirit to you, from you to others, and from others back to you.
Normally associated to the Aquarian as a power animal, Otter stresses the need for compassionate understanding, balanced judgment and generous sharing. If you are happy for others you will find more joy in your own life.
Otter is a medicine used to eliminate worry and anxiety. It helps not to concern ourselves too intensely with a “more mentality” and collecting of material things or advancing your position career-wise. Otter encourages you to be satisfied with what you have and to simply enjoy it!
