Medicinal Uses: Comfrey leaves and roots can be applied as a poultice for all manner of bruises, sprains or other damage to the connective tissues, including broken bones and badly healing ulcers and sores as well as for inflammatory swellings. The leaves only are used for treating stomach ulcers, irritable bowel syndrome and piles, as well as for bronchial afflictions. Long believed to possess medicinal properties by folkloric healers, it is said that foodstuffs containing comfrey helped in boosting one’s overall health, improving digestion, and alleviating common ills such as cold, flu, and fever. It was also given to individuals to alleviate the symptoms of cough, or, if prepared as a vegetable in combination with chicken soup, as a general cure all for respiratory ailments.

Magical Uses: In ancient times it was used in sympathetic magic for healing bones. In modern magical herbalism it is recommended for safe travels and also to safeguard one’s luggage. Worn or carried, it protects and ensures safety during travel. Also tuck some in a suitcase so they don’t get lost. The root is used in money spells.
